Our cabin’s cypress walls are lined with its history told through eclectic collections of found objects (like this tray), taxidermy, and photos.

Spring Revival, Little Pee Dee River, South Carolina, 2014

On our last trip to the Lodge, the land seemed more vibrant and feral than ever. Spring came late this year. Along with it, the annual revival the snakes. Their presence was brought to our attention at every turn. So much so, I find myself mediating on their symbolic, religious, mythical meanings. Renewal. Death. Transformation. Creation.  Jen Ervin

  9. For the last two years, my family and I have been collectively making small, Polaroid prints (3.25×4.25) near our historic cabin set deep in the woods of rural South Carolina. Our cabin was built in 1940 and has hosted three generations of storytellers. It’s cypress walls are lined with its history told through eclectic collections of found objects, taxidermy, and photos. The surrounding land is a wilderness left to explore complete with winding roads, haunting swamps, wild turkeys, alligators, snakes and more. Here, we explore our southernness, weaving the past into the present to create our own mythology.
